Raider Strong Episode 017: Janel Baten

Podcast: Play in new window  |  SubscribeiTunes

In this episode, Ms. Janel Baten, High School Athletic Director, tells us that she knew in the seventh grade that she wanted to be an Athletic Director although she took a small detour as a math teacher.

The people (kids & coaches) of the Pulaski Community School District make her experience as an employee fantastic!

The only other job she wants in the PCSD is to be a bus driver.  Not of routes, but to sporting events so she can watch the games! (Great idea!)

Someday she wants to "relax" if she ever can on a beach somewhere!

Book Creator App: End of Unit, End of Year, Projects, Endless Possibilities

A few students and teachers in our school have dabbled in creating with the tremendously popular Book Creator App.  Currently, our Civics students are experiencing our school's first full implemented Book Creator App learning opportunity.

The Civics instructors created templates to assist students with the gathering and publishing of information.  With the great features of "open in" and "combining books", both found on the iPad, the workflow was efficient.

Finally, students collaborated with their group to create a final product which was published to Canvas for easy evaluation.

The templates were placed on Canvas and students easily "opened" them in Book Creator to add their information!

The presentation below was given to the students in a 10 minute time frame.  Each slide represents features of the Book Creator app that will help the students create a quality product.

In this episode, Mr. John Pitzen, High School Technology & Engineering teacher, explains how he knew since his high school days of being a tech. ed. teaching assistant that this was his calling.  His Campbellsport High School tech. ed. teacher gave him opportunities when he was a senior to work with freshman and sophomore students.

He can't say enough positive things about the Pulaski Community School District because of it's people.  If he had to have another job, it would be teaching history in our school district.  Sports, especially golfing, is is favorite thing to do outside of school.  His favorite course?  Brown County Golf Course

Naturally, being a woods teacher, he would like one of his next vacations to be to the Redwood National Park.

Workflow - Undisputed iOS Production King

I've blogged about Workflow before, but until Apple made it free last week, I didn't really feel it was a tool that others would pay $2.99 for.  Why?  Because it takes a little bit to understand it.

Basics Repeated input actions on your iPhone or iPad create desired output actions.

Since it is now free, I encourage educators to look at it and discover ways to utilize it in their personal or professional life.
